Erne has lived most of his life at Crom Castle, running the family
estate on the shores of Upper Lough Erne in Northern Ireland. He inherited
Crom, along with the title The Earl of Erne, from his Father who was
killed in action in 1940. He has a passion for the countryside and
enjoys shooting, stalking and fishing, either in his native Fermanagh,
where he is also Lord Lieutenant, or in Scotland where his family
(Crichton) originated. He started painting watercolours in the 1980's
and is completely self-taught, although he was greatly influenced
and encouraged by Derek Hill, the famous Donegal Artist, when it came
to painting in oils. He has had five exhibitions - one in Dublin,
two in Fermanagh - and two with Malcolm Innes Gallery in London 2000
& 2004. |
